Why Idaho agents stay busy

For 2027 coverage, Idaho runs its own exchange, Your Health Idaho, instead of HealthCare.gov. Agents who sell its plans register with Your Health Idaho too. Agents also complete Your Health Idaho certification training.

The median annual wage for insurance sales agents in Idaho was $58,510 in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That figure covers every kind of insurance agent and employer in the state, so read it as a picture of the local market, not as pay at My Live Health. Our pay is commission, paid every week.

About 8.3% of Idaho residents speak Spanish at home (Census Bureau ACS 2024 1-year, table C16001).

How to get licensed in Idaho

The Idaho Department of Insurance licenses insurance agents in Idaho. Here is the path to a resident license that covers health insurance, then the steps to sell Medicare and ACA plans.

  1. Resident license

    Get the right license line

In Idaho, the resident license that lets you sell health insurance is Accident and Health or Sickness. The Idaho Department of Insurance issues it.

  2. Not required

    No pre-licensing course required

Idaho does not require a pre-licensing course for this license. You can study on your own and book the exam when you are ready.

  3. Pearson VUE

    Pass the state exam

In Idaho, insurance licensing exams are run by Pearson VUE. You schedule your health line exam with them.

  4. Required

    Get fingerprinted

Idaho requires fingerprints for a background check. Scheduled through Pearson VUE (electronic or mailed card), plus a signed CHRI release form.

  5. Apply for your license

Apply for your Idaho resident license through NIPR, right after your fingerprints are taken. You receive your National Producer Number (NPN), a unique ID that follows you to every state, during the application process.

  6. Every plan year

    Certify for Medicare

To sell Medicare Advantage and Part D plans with us, complete the AHIP Medicare + Fraud, Waste, and Abuse course for the current plan year (AHIP updates it every year), plus each carrier's certification.

  7. Every plan year

Register with CMS for ACA plans

Complete Marketplace registration and training with CMS each plan year through the Marketplace Learning Management System (MLMS). You need this for HealthCare.gov states, which you reach with non-resident licenses. CMS ties Marketplace access to the health line of authority on your resident license, so your Idaho license comes first.

  8. State exchange

    Register with Your Health Idaho

For 2027 coverage, Idaho runs its own exchange, Your Health Idaho, instead of HealthCare.gov. Agents register with Your Health Idaho as well. Agents also complete Your Health Idaho certification training.

  9. Keep your license active

To renew, Idaho requires 24 hours of continuing education every 2 years, including 3 hours of ethics.
