Why Georgia agents stay busy

For 2027 coverage, Georgia runs its own exchange, Georgia Access, instead of HealthCare.gov. Agents who sell its plans register with Georgia Access too. Agents also complete Georgia Access certification.

The median annual wage for insurance sales agents in Georgia was $61,850 in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That figure covers every kind of insurance agent and employer in the state, so read it as a picture of the local market, not as pay at My Live Health. Our pay is commission, paid every week.

About 9.2% of Georgia residents speak Spanish at home (Census Bureau ACS 2024 1-year, table C16001).

How to get licensed in Georgia

The Georgia Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire licenses insurance agents in Georgia. Here is the path to a resident license that covers health insurance, then the steps to sell Medicare and ACA plans.

  1. Resident license

    Get the right license line

In Georgia, the resident license that lets you sell health insurance is Accident and Sickness. The Georgia Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire issues it.

  2. 8 hours

    Complete pre-licensing education

Georgia requires 8 hours of pre-licensing education for Accident and Sickness, taken within the last 12 months.

  3. Pearson VUE

    Pass the state exam

In Georgia, insurance licensing exams are run by Pearson VUE. You schedule your health line exam with them.

  4. Required

    Get fingerprinted

Georgia requires fingerprints for a background check through IdentoGO (service code 2TGJ6B).

  5. Apply for your license

Apply for your Georgia resident license through Sircon (required for all resident applicants). You receive your National Producer Number (NPN), a unique ID that follows you to every state, during the application process.

  6. Every plan year

    Certify for Medicare

To sell Medicare Advantage and Part D plans with us, complete the AHIP Medicare + Fraud, Waste, and Abuse course for the current plan year (AHIP updates it every year), plus each carrier's certification.

  7. Every plan year

Register with CMS for ACA plans

Complete Marketplace registration and training with CMS each plan year through the Marketplace Learning Management System (MLMS). You need this for HealthCare.gov states, which you reach with non-resident licenses. CMS ties Marketplace access to the health line of authority on your resident license, so your Georgia license comes first.

  8. State exchange

    Register with Georgia Access

For 2027 coverage, Georgia runs its own exchange, Georgia Access, instead of HealthCare.gov. Agents register with Georgia Access as well. Agents also complete Georgia Access certification.

  9. Keep your license active

To renew, Georgia requires 24 hours of continuing education every 2 years, including 3 hours of ethics. After 20 years licensed, it drops to 20 hours.

Also good to know in Georgia: Residents must upload a signed Citizenship Affidavit and a copy of an acceptable ID with the application.
