Start with your ZIP code
Marketplace plans are sold county by county, and your county determines which insurers, networks, and prices you see. Everything else follows from this.
Enrolling
Enrolling in a marketplace plan is mostly gathering a few facts about your household. The step that trips people up is the last one: coverage starts when the first premium is paid.

Enroll during Open Enrollment, or with a life eventOpen Enrollment runs November 1 through January 15 in most states. Outside that window you need a qualifying life event such as losing other coverage, moving, marriage, or a birth, and you generally have 60 days to enroll.
The steps
Marketplace plans are sold county by county, and your county determines which insurers, networks, and prices you see. Everything else follows from this.
Who is on the application, who is claimed on your tax return, and what you expect to earn this year. That is what determines eligibility for savings, Medicaid, or CHIP.
Check the deductible, the out-of-pocket maximum, your doctors, and your prescriptions. The cheapest premium and the cheapest year are often different plans.
Coverage is not active until the first premium is paid, by the deadline the insurer sets. This is the step people most often forget, and it is the one that starts the coverage.
